Immediate Release
11th May 2003
‘Even
at 6.30am we have traffic jams’ that was the graphic message which greeted
members of the A24 Alliance(1)
at
the start of the ninth and latest fact finding meeting taking place this time
with the residents of North Holmwood(2).
Speaking
after the meeting Peter Finch for the A24 Alliance said: “It was clear from
the residents that they were fed up with the noise, fumes and chaos the
traffic was causing. Even though the A24 bypasses North Holmwood village,
traffic has increased so dramatically that from 6.30am it’s grid-locked and
traffic is rat running through the village at speed, causing danger and
fear”.
Continuing
Peter Finch said: “The thought of a new road from Horsham to Capel
attracting even more traffic onto their section of the A24 was greeted with
dismay. There was sympathy for Warnham and Kingsfold as they like North
Holmwood wanted traffic removed form their villages. However they weren’t
prepared to put up with even more traffic that a new road would generate”.
Finally
Peter Finch Said: “Clearly the County Councils of both Sussex and Surrey
have to prepare a charm offensive if they want to see their plans for the A24
accepted. No one wants to see traffic increased, instead speed control to
improve safety and the quality of life improved for those plagued by the
traffic were the demands of the residents of North Holmwood”.
