A24
Alliance
For Immediate Release 26 January 2005
The Truth Is Out!
In a desperate attempt to secure at risk government
funding for their sinking flagship scheme, West Sussex County Council have
finally had to admit, during the special Planning Committee Meeting held in
Southwater, that the junction flyover scheme for the A24 is designed to increase
traffic between the coast and the M25, and little to do with safety.
For the A24 Alliance, Peter Finch said: “Following the government decision to
defer funding for the A24 scheme, Cllr Tex Pemberton and his team have had to
result to the lucky dip in order to find a juicy reason why government should
support the scheme.
Not smart enough to conjure up an original idea, Tex and his pals have locked on
to the East Sussex County Council mantra ‘The road is needed for regeneration
of the coastal towns” – as in the reason for the Hastings bypass. Problem
for Tex though, is that Sussex Enterprise – the voice of Sussex businesses –
are reported as saying Worthing, at the start of the A24, is a boom town with a
lack of skilled workers.
No the scheme, if it gets government approval, will be poor value for taxpayers
money, and at the May council elections, Cllr Pemberton and his scheme will be
remembered as the Pemberton Road = Added Tax”.
